Project description

The module objective is: “Rural youth in Western Kenya have improved training and employment opportunities in selected value chains of the agricultural and food industry”.

Job description

  • Overall responsibility for the consulting packages of the Contractor, personnel of the consulting company, their work plans (after approval by GIZ) and results;
  • Ensure coherence and complementarity of the CO’s services with other services provided by the programme at local and national level
  • Design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of capacity development measures of local partners in the following areas: Advice to partner institutions, training centres, district governments, youth organisations, financial institutions and relevant enterprises; responsibility for concept development for training and further training aimed at improving employability and employment opportunities and the agricultural and food economy;
  • Ensuring the compatibility of project management with established GIZ practice through the application of Capacity WORKS
  • consideration of cross-cutting issues (e.g. gender equality);
  • Human resources management, in particular identifying the need for short-term assignments within the available budget, as well as planning and managing the deployment and supervision of local and international short-term experts;
  • Ensure impact monitoring, close and regular consultation with the project manager and regional project team responsible for the bilateral project and related GIZ projects;
  • Regular and timely reporting;
  • Support of the DP in the preparation and, if necessary, adjustment of the operation plan, project-relevant research and in the preparation and implementation of an internal evaluation/ preparation of a follow-up project, if applicable;
  • Responsibility for monitoring the use of funds and financial planning in consultation with the GIZ’s contract manager;
  • Supporting the WIP in updating and/or adapting the design of the project, in evaluations and in preparing a follow-up phase;
  • Ensure contacts and coordination with other development partners in the region;
  • Support the cluster manager in developing, presenting and disseminating the concepts and knowledge products developed into the discussions at national level;
  • Support of the project manager in the development of PR materials and awareness raising activities;
  • Monitoring of trainees and interns (if applicable) in their professional environment and feedback / measures to improve the working environment.

Qualifications

  • Education: University degree (diploma/master),M.Sc. or equivalent in vocational training, agriculture, agricultural economics, rural development, social sciences or related fields
  • Language: Fluent in English (C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages); good command of written and spoken German (B2)
  • General work experience : 10 years’ professional experience in the rural development and/or vocational training sector
  • Specific work experience: 8 years in agricultural value chains, rural training/youth employment or regional economic development
  • Leadership experience/management: 5 years of leadership experience as team leader in projects or manager in companies
  • Regional experience: 5 years of experience in projects in the Sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Development Cooperation experience: 5 years of experience in DC projects
  • Other: Experience in cooperation with private enterprises and financial institutions, application of gender-sensitive approaches and their adaptation, advice on organisational development and participatory processes, monitoring and evaluation)
  • Proven training in Capacity WORKS
  • Experience in financial management
