Sightsavers is an international non-governmental organisation that works with partners in developing countries to treat and prevent avoidable blindness, neglected tropical diseases and promote equality for people with disabilities. It is based in Haywards Heath in the United Kingdom. With the support of Givewell, Sightsavers supports Guinea in contributing toward the elimination of Schistosomiasis and Soil-transmitted helminthiasis before WHO set the deadline for the elimination NTDs as a public health problem in the world.Key Tasks and Principal AccountabilitiesSupporting Project Management(70%)
▪Work with partners to develop annual plans based on developed programs
▪Work with partners to ensure effective and smooth implementation of projects within budget, supporting them to manage all aspects of the project planning, implementation, financial management, monitoring and evaluation;
Support partners to ensure learnings from project implementation are appropriately documented;
▪Ensure timely and high-quality reporting (both narrative and financial)
▪Provide regular and timely reports regarding field activities & ensure timely follow-up on action points from field visits;
▪Develop high quality case studies as part of reporting and for fundraising
▪Be proactive in providing relevant and good quality information needed for fundraising, communication and advocacy purposes;
▪Support the SeniorProgramme Manager to ensure regular review and learning to enhance improvements in project implementation.Financial & Resource Management(25%)
▪Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and Activity Based Budgets forthe NTD projects and monitor expenditure against these, togetherwith partners;
▪Work with the Finance and Support Services Manager and projects partners to ensure proper partner accountability for Donors and Sightsavers funds.Partnership Management(5%)
▪Support the SeniorProgrammeManager to identify and maintain effective partnerships within the country to help sustain projects achievements;
▪Support the SeniorProgramme Manager and the Finance & Support Services Manager to develop and implement a coherent plan of partner capacitybuilding in relation to the projects in his/her portfolio;
▪Support theSeniorProgramme Manager in partnership assessment initiatives in line with Sightsavers policies.Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
▪Public health Physician or holder of high education diploma (master’s degree or equivalent in the following disciplines: Medicine, Biology, sociology, Development related studies,etc.);
▪Have extensive experience in programmes and projects management, preferably inNGOs environment;
▪Have good skills in the elaboration (writing) of activity report;
▪Have a good qualification in monitoring and evaluation of projects / programmes
▪Good communication skills
▪Knowledge in computer usage related (Word, Excel, and Power Point);
▪Have ability to understand and work with budgets and financial provisions
;▪Fluency in English (writing and speaking) is an essential requirement Skills (Special Training or Competence):

Finance and Support Services Officer – ASCEND
Location: Sightsavers Guinea Conakry Country Office

Sightsavers is looking to recruit an experienced, dedicated and proactive Finance Officer to join the ASCEND programme in the Guinea Conakry office. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with extensive Programme Finance experience within Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD’s), Nutrition or Public Health and a background in INGO’s to join Sightsavers.
The Finance and Support Services Officer will oversee and supervise the development and co-ordination of Sightsavers’ Finance & Support Services and the ASCEND Programme.
As Finance Officer, you will be responsible for a range of financial support functions including:
- financial planning
- financial management
- risk mitigation
- writing reports and reviews of programme and project reports
- implement financial management and controls
- plan, analyse and retain accurate financial records
You will ensure compliance and adherence to organisational frameworks and will work collaboratively with programme and finance teams to identify areas for growth and improvement.
In addition to financial support, you will provide support on programme functions, such as:
- ensuring project documentation and procurement policies are up to date and in line with partners policies
- managing of project vehicles and all related insurance and paperwork
- supporting training and coaching, providing donor reporting and liaising with partners
Utilising your experience of Financial Management and Programme and Grant Management, you will collaborate with the programmatic teams for joint review of project/programme reports, planning and analysis as well as grant management support and project monitoring and audit.
The Finance Officer role will suit a candidate with a relevant Professional Accounting qualification or degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience. You will be experienced with communicating with key stakeholders and will have worked with government organisations and within an INGO.
