NGO Jobs Kenya-SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Specific duties-NGO Jobs Kenya

:•Responsible for planning, design, and implementation of strategies to promote effective communication with external and internal audiences on RSIF operations, research and other products, and campaigns

.•Help determine the most effective content and communications interventions to address particular challenges in clear alignment to the mandate of the RCU, as well as the goals and objectives of RSIF and icipe.

•Identify opinion leaders and influential organizations for RSIF and guide a strategy of engagement with these various stakeholders, which might range from ministers, development partners and parliamentarians to community-based organizations, civil society organizations and the private sector.

•Responsible for convening stakeholder groups for consultations and structured dialogues around projects, knowledge outputs, and RSIF priorities.

•Provide strategic advice on trends, news developments or changing circumstances that may impact RSIF (including the landscape of applied sciences, engineering and technology in Africa) and its work and help to determine strategic responses.

•Responsible for delivering a range of innovative written products on RSIF’s operational goals, results and knowledge. Outputs range from traditional press releases and Op-Eds to web features, brochures, Q&As, newsletters, briefing notes and speeches.

•Ensure relevant photography aspects and videography.

•Responsible for updating content on RSIF’s website and social media.

•Develop standard operating procedures and guidelines for public awareness/knowledge events such as roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, media interviews and appearances for individual events.

•Oversee the creation of a brand identity for RSIF to guide all its representations.

•Provide regular communication support to RSIF operational teams and government partners to ensure that project goals are clear and that affected stakeholders are engaged at all stages.

•Provide technical capacity building to RSIF stakeholders to enable them to effectively function as RSIF spokespersons, to further broaden RSIF, PASET and icipe goals.

•Coordinate RSIF communication activities and events and maintain efficient, proactive and timely dissemination of information by actively and assertively seeking communication opportunities. •Oversee RSIF communications staff, and communications consultants, external communications firms, and the web team,and manage their performance. Manage specific lines of the RCU’s unit budget.

•Effectively represent RSIF and its RCU before external and internal audiences explaining RSIF policies and operational goals.

•Oversee the development of a framework to monitor and evaluate RCU’s communications activities and compilation of regular reports accordingly.

•In all cases, coordinate with the icipe Communications Unit to ensure adherence of the Centre’s set standards of editorial quality, content accuracy, messaging, timing etc.•Perform any other tasks as assigned by senior management/supervisor.

Requirements/Qualifications

•Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (communication, journalism, international relations or other related fields).

•At least eight years of experience in conducting communication function for a regional or international organization

.•Qualifications in print and electronic media. Development communication and information management are highly desirable.Core Competencies

•Excellent written and spoken command of English, and the ability to convey complex ideas in a creative, clear, direct, and lively style.

•Strong writing skills: ability, with minimum supervision, to prepare and edit (simple, moderate and complex) online communication products in a clear, concise and web-friendly style.

•Experience in establishing and maintaining media relations in the developing world context.

•Experience in supporting communications and/or media relations in a knowledge-intensive organization

.•Proven knowledge of visual communication principles and fluency with design software.•Knowledge of and skills in desktop publishing, HTML, photography and photo editing.

•Strong understanding and experience with digital content and social media analytics.Other Attributes

•Sufficient understanding of project management concepts to propose and develop drafts of online communications plans and strategies with minimal supervision.

•In-depth knowledge of international trends and cultural sensitives of target audiences to ensure responsible communication

Specific Duties-NGO Jobs Kenya

The Capacity Building Officer will undertake tasks that include, but are not limited to the following:

Work closely with the Doctoral Scholarships Officer, other employees and multiple partners to support the administrative needs of the RSIF doctoral scholarships programme, from scholarship announcements, application review and selection of candidates, to awarding of scholarships, contracts, and student and supervisor reporting.

Assist with initiating and follow up of payments to students, African Host Universities and International Partners.

Coordinate strategic sandwich placements for RSIF Scholars at International Partner Institutions, including liaising with scholars, supervisors and international partners.

Receive, review and collate reports from RSIF scholars, African Host Universities and International Partners.

Maintain and update the scholarship management database and records to facilitate monitoring and evaluation, reporting, information retrieval, answering of queries and providing feedback as needed.

 

Maintain close linkages and cooperation with partner organisations, including universities, research institutions and the private sector with regard to RSIF PhD scholarship activities.

Ensure compliance with programme reporting requirements and schedules.

Support the development of audience-focused communication materials.

Coordinate and schedule meetings, and produce minutes, presentations and reports as required.

Any other tasks as may be required.

Requirements/Qualifications-NGO Jobs Kenya

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, project management, or related field.

Experience in coordination, project management and reporting, basic financial management and budget monitoring.

At least 5 years of progressive work experience at national and international levels in coordination, administration and successful project management, including management of education and training programmes.

Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

Core Competencies

Knowledge of planning financial and budgeting issues.

Experience with basic financial management, including developing and monitoring budgets and financial reporting.

The Business Support Officer II Accountant will undertake tasks that include, but are not limited to the following:

Providing support in the preparation of the RSIF annual work plan and budget.

Assisting in the development of proposal budgets.

Assisting in the posting of new budgets and budget adjustments to the rolling budget.

Assisting in the review of payment requests to ensure financial compliance with icipe standards and donor requirements in the implementation of projects.

Providing guidance and advice on financial transactions and related aspects to RSIF project teams.

Assisting in the review of financial statements during tendering process.

Assisting in the financial and administrative capacity assessment of new partners.

Preparation of fund disbursement to partners.

Reviewing and processing partners advance liquidation and updating the same in financial systems.

Preparing monthly age analysis of all partners’ balances and following overdue liquidations.

Assisting to retrieve supporting documents during project audits.

Maintaining meticulous financial records.

Other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a finance-related discipline

CPA(K) or its equivalent

At least 3 years’ relevant work experience with a reputable organization.
